Eugene Springfield Fire responds to brush fire near downtown Springfield, building saved from major damage
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to a brush fire near downtown Springfield on Friday evening after a Springfield Police Department officer spotted smoke in the area.
According to Eugene Springfield Fire, the incident occurred at approximately 221 B Street. Just before 7 p.m., the officer noticed smoke while leaving the justice center and immediately requested a fire response.
Fire crews arrived on scene and worked to extinguish the brush fire before it could spread further.
Officials said the heat from the fire was strong enough to break windows and nearly ignite the interior of a nearby building.
After putting out the flames, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the structure, including the interior and roof, to ensure there was no further extension of the fire.
Crews confirmed the fire was contained before it could cause significant structural damage.
Officials credited the quick actions of the responding police officer, as well as the rapid fire response, for preventing the situation from escalating.
Eugene Springfield Fire noted that the building was ultimately saved due to the fast detection and coordinated emergency response.
