Eugene Springfield Fire responds to grass fire involving railroad trestle along Highway 99
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a reported grass fire along Highway 99 on Sunday morning, assisting Lane Fire Authority with the incident.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 9:30 a.m. after a fire was reported across from Jerry’s in Eugene. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire burning inside a small railroad trestle.
According to Eugene Springfield Fire, the trestle contained heavy timbers treated with creosote, causing the fire to be visible from across the surrounding area.
Eugene Springfield Fire provided additional resources to support Lane Fire Authority’s response. The department sent three engines, a truck, a tender and a chief to the scene.
Firefighters worked alongside Lane Fire Authority crews to address the fire and prevent it from spreading.
No injuries or additional damage were reported in the department’s initial update. The cause of the fire was not provided.
