Eugene emergency communications center welcomes Senator James Manning for visit to recognize dispatchers

Eugene, OR – Oregon Sen. James Manning visited Central Lane Communications to learn more about the work of emergency call takers and dispatchers who support police officers, firefighters and paramedics during emergencies.

During the Aug. 6 visit, Manning toured the communications center and met with the professionals responsible for answering emergency calls and coordinating responses.

Central Lane Communications said Manning spent time learning about emergency communications and speaking with call takers and dispatchers about their work.

The Eugene Police Department highlighted the important role dispatchers play in public safety, noting that their decisions and communication help emergency personnel respond when members of the community need assistance.

Dispatchers serve as a critical link between people requesting emergency help and the police, fire and medical personnel sent to respond. Their responsibilities include gathering information, communicating with responders and helping coordinate emergency responses.

Central Lane Communications thanked Manning for visiting the center and recognizing the work performed by its call takers and dispatchers.

The visit also provided an opportunity for Manning to meet the people working behind the scenes of emergency response and learn more about the demands of emergency communications.
