Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect and a potential victim following a reported disorderly incident at the Eugene Public Library earlier this month.

According to police, at approximately 1:10 p.m. on June 5, a man was reported to be inside the library behaving disorderly, including swinging a knife and yelling. An unknown female patron was reportedly nearby during the incident.

A librarian responded after hearing the disturbance and went to the second floor to investigate. When the librarian arrived, the man was still yelling but had put the knife away and was no longer swinging it, police said.

Officials stated that the suspect was asked to leave the building and complied with the request. The unidentified woman also left the area and did not contact law enforcement at the time of the incident.

Police said a video of the encounter later began circulating on social media, and the incident was officially reported to Eugene Police on June 6.

Investigators noted that the woman involved may be a victim of menacing, but she has not yet been identified. The suspect also remains unidentified as the investigation continues.

Eugene Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the individuals involved to come forward to assist in the case.

Authorities provided case number 26-08538 and asked tips to be directed to Officer Goodin at 541-844-8023 or [email protected].
