Eugene, OR – A nurse practitioner from the Eugene-Springfield area was recently recognized for her actions after performing CPR on a person who collapsed at an airport while she was traveling out of state with her family.

According to HEARTsafe Eugene Springfield and Eugene Springfield Fire, Adina Henderson, a family nurse practitioner, stepped in to assist when the individual suffered a medical emergency. Officials said Henderson continued CPR efforts until further help could take over.

Henderson had completed CPR training just two days prior to the incident through Oregon CPR. During the emergency, she recalled guidance from her instructors, including a reminder to carefully place defibrillator pads by taking an extra moment to check positioning.

The response highlighted the importance of recent training and preparedness in emergency situations. Officials said Henderson’s quick actions and willingness to intervene played a critical role during the incident.

HEARTsafe Eugene Springfield, along with Eugene Springfield Fire, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Oregon CPR, recognized Henderson for her efforts and commitment to helping others, even while away from her home community.

Program leaders said the recognition reflects the broader goal of HEARTsafe initiatives, which aim to improve survival outcomes from cardiac emergencies by increasing public awareness, training, and access to lifesaving techniques such as CPR and automated external defibrillators.

They noted that Henderson’s actions demonstrate how training can have an impact beyond local communities, extending to situations across state lines where immediate response can make a difference.

Officials expressed appreciation for Henderson’s willingness to act in a critical moment and credited her training for helping guide her response.
