Kitchen fire reported at WestTown on 8th Apartments in downtown Eugene
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire responded to an apartment fire in downtown Eugene on the evening of March 15.
Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 6:39 p.m. to the WestTown on 8th Apartments in the 200 block of West 8th Avenue after a resident reported a kitchen fire with smoke filling the unit.
Crews from Station 1 arrived in under four minutes as part of a high life hazard response that included eight fire crews, consisting of five engines and three ladder trucks, along with two chiefs, two ambulances, two deputy fire marshals, and one support unit.
Firefighters quickly located the kitchen fire and accessed the apartment through a stairwell using a hoseline. While crews worked to extinguish the fire, firefighters evacuated neighboring units and Truck 1 conducted a search of the affected apartment.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and crews conducted extensive overhaul operations to ensure all hot spots were extinguished.
No injuries were reported. Officials said the fire was contained to the apartment where it started, although smoke affected up to five additional units. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
