Eugene apartment fire sends occupant to hospital for smoke inhalation, firefighters rescue two cats

Eugene, OR – One person and two cats were transported for emergency care following an apartment fire in Eugene on Aug. 21.

Eugene Springfield Fire was dispatched shortly after 6:30 p.m. to an apartment fire near 5th Avenue and Jefferson Street.

Firefighters found the fire contained to the kitchen and the apartment where it started. The occupant was transported to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

During their search of the apartment, firefighters also located and rescued two cats.

The cats received first aid from firefighters at the scene before an Eugene Police Department Community Service Officer transported them to an emergency veterinary clinic for further care.

Fire officials did not provide additional information about the condition of the occupant or the two cats.
