31-year-old man taken into custody after Eugene Police SWAT evacuates neighborhood during search warrant

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police SWAT Team took a 31-year-old man into custody early Friday morning after officers evacuated part of a densely populated neighborhood while serving a search warrant on Archie Street.

Police said the SWAT team arrived just after 1 a.m. Aug. 28 at an address in the 300 block of Archie Street as part of an investigation into allegations of coercion, menacing, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of body armor.

The search warrant followed a report received by Eugene Police at approximately 11:30 a.m. Aug. 27. The department’s Violent Crimes Unit conducted a subsequent investigation before obtaining the warrant.

The suspect was identified as Scout Monroe Stripedwolf, 31. According to police, Stripedwolf was not cooperative with officers and refused commands from the SWAT team to leave the residence.

Because the home was located in a densely populated neighborhood and investigators believed Stripedwolf could be armed with high-powered rifles and was in possession of body armor, police evacuated the immediate area as a precaution.

Residents were also sent a push alert instructing them to shelter in place and avoid the area while officers worked to resolve the situation.

Multiple specialized units responded to the scene, including the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Drone Team, Street Crimes Unit, Explosive Disposal Unit, Special Investigations Unit and Violent Crimes Unit.

Police said Stripedwolf was taken into custody at approximately 1:44 a.m. Friday without further details about the circumstances of the arrest being released.

Following his arrest, the shelter-in-place order was lifted and the immediate public safety restrictions were ended.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to Eugene Police.

The department has not released additional information about the allegations or whether further arrests or charges are expected as the investigation continues.
