Eugene City council endorses Economic Development Plan

Eugene, OREGON – On Monday, the Eugene City Council adopted the recommendations from the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Economic Development. The announcement was celebrated earlier in the day at the new Eugene City Hall, where Mayor Lucy Vinis, business community members, and the panel gathered to present the report.
The Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Economic Development was established earlier this year by Mayor Vinis. It comprised a diverse array of experts, community leaders, and stakeholders tasked with creating strategies to boost economic growth, job creation, and resilience in Eugene. The full report and list of panel members are available at www.eugene-or.gov/blueribbonpanel.
The panel outlined 12 recommendations, grouped into four main categories:
- Opening Channels of Two-Way Communication: Emphasizing the importance of improved and frequent dialogue between the business sector and the Eugene City Council.
- Envision and Share the City’s Economic Development Strategies: Stressing the need for a long-term vision to guide economic decisions and resource allocation effectively.
- Strengthen and Expand Economic Development Tools: Suggesting enhancements to existing economic development tools to better address future challenges.
- Support Physical and Social Infrastructure: Highlighting the necessity of continued investment in both physical infrastructure and social initiatives, such as housing and workforce development.
These recommendations aim to create a robust economic environment and ensure the sustainable growth of Eugene’s economy.
