19-year-old man arrested for DUII, reckless driving, and unlawful firearm possession after found passed out in running vehicle in Eugene
Eugene, OR – A 19-year-old man was arrested in Eugene early June 15 after police say he was found passed out inside a running vehicle and later determined to be driving under the influence, according to the Eugene Police Department.
At approximately 1:01 a.m., officers responded to the area of West 18th Avenue and Jefferson Street after a caller reported a man unconscious in a Lexus SUV. A passerby reportedly turned the vehicle off before officers arrived.
Police said officers attempted to wake the driver, identified as 19-year-old Joseph Enyeto Coleman, but were initially unsuccessful and removed him from the vehicle for his safety, placing him on the sidewalk. Coleman briefly regained consciousness, and officers observed signs that he may have been intoxicated.
Following further investigation, officers determined Coleman had been driving while under the influence of intoxicants (DUII). They also discovered his driver’s license had been suspended due to a prior DUII arrest.
During a required inventory search of the vehicle, officers located a firearm and ammunition. Authorities said Coleman was also found to be in unlawful possession of the weapon.
Coleman was transported to the Lane County Jail, where he was lodged on multiple charges, including DUII, reckless driving, driving while suspended (misdemeanor), and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The Eugene Police Department said the investigation began as a welfare check but escalated after officers developed probable cause for criminal offenses.
