House fire near downtown Eugene leaves vacant home heavily damaged, no injuries reported
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a house fire near downtown Eugene early Sunday morning, with firefighters finding a vacant home heavily involved in flames.
Just after 5 a.m. on Aug. 16, a caller reported seeing thick black smoke coming from a vacant home in the 1400 block of Ferry Street, according to Eugene Springfield Fire.
Engine 1 from the downtown station arrived at the scene in less than four minutes and found the single-story home heavily involved in fire.
Firefighters immediately began working to suppress the flames while also searching the home for any potential victims.
No victims were found inside the residence, and no injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
The fire required extensive overhaul work after the flames were brought under control. Firefighters remained at the scene for more than two hours as crews continued checking the structure and completing their operations.
Officials said the fire was under investigation. No cause of the fire was provided in the department’s initial report.
