Eugene police arrest repeat burglary suspect with help of license plate reader after July 30 apartment break-in
Eugene, OR – On August 4, Eugene Police Property Crimes detectives arrested 41-year-old Travis Lee Riley, a repeat property crimes offender, following a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit.
The investigation began at 6:24 p.m. on July 30, when officers responded to a burglary report at an apartment in the 1100 block of W. 6th Avenue.
Detectives developed probable cause to charge Riley with Burglary in the First Degree. Riley was already awaiting a sentencing hearing related to previous convictions for property crimes and a weapon offense.
Authorities entered information about a vehicle linked to Riley into the LPR system. On August 4, the system alerted officers that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 99N. A patrol officer located the vehicle heading eastbound on W. 7th Avenue and visually confirmed Riley was in the passenger seat.
Following a safe traffic stop, Riley was taken into custody. A search incident to arrest uncovered methamphetamine and pills in his possession.
He was booked into Lane County Jail facing charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine (greater than 2 grams), and Unlawful Possession of a Schedule 4 drug (Alprazolam).
