Eugene Springfield Fire responds to multiple brush, grass, and structure fires across the area
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Springfield Fire Department was busy on Monday, June 16, responding to several fire incidents throughout the day.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire near a residence on the 1500 block of Vera Drive in Springfield. Upon arrival, crews found burning arborvitae in the backyard of the home. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread to nearby residences.
Later that day, just after noon, emergency responders were called to the 3200 block of Gateway Street in Springfield, where residents reported smoke in the laundry room of the Gateway Village Apartments. Fire crews discovered that the smoke was caused by a burned-out belt on a commercial dryer, with no damage extending to the building itself.
At 3:15 p.m., firefighters tackled a fast-moving grass fire on the 4300 block of Main Street in Springfield. The fire threatened nearby structures but was quickly brought under control by responding crews. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Shortly before 4:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a mobile home fire in the 500 block of North Danebo in West Eugene. Firefighters found the mobile home heavily involved in flames upon arrival. While reports suggest fireworks may have been the cause, the investigation is ongoing.
At nearly 6:00 p.m., a shed fire was reported on the 1800 block of J Street in Springfield. Fire crews contained the fire to the shed, which is believed to have ignited during a mishap while refueling a lawnmower. No injuries were reported.
Just after 6:00 p.m., firefighters responded to a possible fire at the Safeway store on Pioneer Parkway in Springfield. Upon arrival, crews observed light smoke coming from the roof at the rear of the building. The fire had spread from a dumpster fire into the wall and a void space above a business ceiling.
Throughout the day, Eugene Springfield Fire Department demonstrated swift and effective responses, preventing significant damage and injuries across multiple incidents. Authorities continue to investigate the causes of several fires.
