80-year-old woman taken into custody after allegedly holding a gun under her family member’s chin before striking him twice with the barrel

Oregon – At 4:11 p.m. on Sept. 6, EPD officers responded to a home on Ivy Glen Drive after an 80-year-old woman called 911 to report that she had pointed a gun at her son during a dispute.

According to the police department, the woman, identified as Yvonne Ballew, told dispatchers that she had been trying to hit her 50-year-old son with a pistol.

When officers arrived, the son told police that he and his mother had been involved in a dispute when Ballew held the gun under his chin and struck him twice with the barrel.

Oregon authoriteis searched the home and located the firearm behind a couch cushion. Police said the weapon was loaded.

Ballew was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of menacing under the Abuse Prevention Act and unlawful use of a weapon.

The case remains under investigation.
