17-year-old charged with first-degree assault after shooting left woman hospitalized in Eugene

Eugene, OR – A 17-year-old male was arrested Monday evening in connection with a shooting that left a 19-year-old woman hospitalized in Eugene, police said.

The arrest was made with assistance from the Eugene Police Department’s SWAT team. Officers took the juvenile into custody in the 1000 block of West 7th Avenue.

The teenager was lodged at Serbu on charges of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The investigation began after officers responded at approximately 1:44 a.m. October 25 to a report of a gunshot wound in the 2100 block of West 7th Avenue. Police found a 19-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound and arranged for her to be transported to a hospital.

At the time, investigators said her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The department’s Violent Crimes detectives took over the investigation, and police said there was no known ongoing threat to the broader community.

The arrest marks an update in the case, which initially had no arrests reported. Eugene police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
