Eugene, OR – A driver was arrested on multiple charges Friday after allegedly driving recklessly, nearly striking pedestrians and crashing a pickup truck into the Old Spaghetti Factory sign in Eugene, police said.

At approximately 10:47 a.m. October 30, a Eugene police officer was following a Dodge Ram pickup on West 5th Avenue when the driver went around a Lane Transit District bus and swerved to avoid hitting a mailbox.

The truck then veered toward a sidewalk where two pedestrians were walking. Both managed to move out of the way as the pickup struck a curb. The driver allegedly swerved toward them again before driving through a small white fence and crashing into the restaurant’s solid sign.

Police identified the driver as Jessica Vasselin, who got out of the truck and was arrested at the scene.

Officers searching the vehicle reportedly found a THC vape pen and a half-empty bottle of canned air between the driver and passenger seats. Vasselin also told police she had been involved in an earlier crash in Veneta while driving a rental car, which she said she had driven into a ditch.

A urine sample was collected as part of the investigation.

Vasselin was arrested on two counts of reckless endangering, reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) and first-degree criminal mischief.
