One person rescued from West Eugene house fire as firefighters contain flames to single room

Eugene, OR – One person was transported to the hospital for evaluation after firefighters responded to an electrical fire at a West Eugene home Wednesday evening.

Eugene Springfield Fire said Engine 2 was dispatched just before 6 p.m. to the 2200 block of City View Street after a passerby noticed light smoke coming from the residence and reported an electrical smell.

Battalion 2 and Engine 2 arrived to find a single-family home with moderate smoke inside and a sounding smoke alarm. The response was upgraded to include four engines, one truck, two chiefs and a medic.

Engine 2 crews entered the home, located a victim and brought the person outside for medical evaluation.

Despite difficult conditions and obstacles inside the residence, firefighters managed to contain the fire to the room where it started, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the house.

A complete search found no additional occupants, and crews confirmed there was no fire extension. The fire was brought under control in 14 minutes.

The Fire Marshal’s Office remained at the scene to investigate the cause.

Later that evening, just after 7 p.m., crews responded to a second reported house fire on Dove Lane in West Eugene.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a dryer fire in the home’s garage and remained at the scene to ventilate the residence.
