Two detained after shooting at Eugene Motel 6, victim expected to survive

Eugene, OR – Two people were detained Thursday in connection with a shooting at a Motel 6 in Eugene’s Glenwood area, according to the Eugene Police Department.

Police said the two suspects were taken into custody near 37th Avenue and Kincaid Street shortly before 1 p.m., several hours after officers responded to the reported shooting.

A related vehicle was also stopped near an apartment complex in the 3500 block of West Amazon Drive as investigators continued working to determine what led to the shooting.

Police advised the public to avoid both areas while the investigation remained active.

The shooting was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. when a woman contacted the Motel 6 front desk and reported that her boyfriend had been shot inside a hotel room.

Officers responded to the hotel in the Glenwood area and found the victim. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and underwent surgery.

According to police, the victim was expected to survive his injuries.

Eugene police also reported a small brush fire in the area that had been brought under control. Authorities said there was no believed to be an ongoing threat to the public.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what led to the gunfire and the relationship between the victim and the detained individuals, remained under investigation.

Police did not immediately release the identities of the victim or the two people detained.

The investigation remained ongoing as detectives worked to gather evidence and determine whether criminal charges would be filed.
