ESF crews respond to single-vehicle crash on I-105 that leaves one dead and one seriously injured after vehicle strikes tree, officials say

Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire and the Eugene Police Department responded to a serious single-vehicle crash Friday morning on Interstate 105 eastbound just east of Coburg Road.

According to emergency officials, multiple fire units, including Engine 6, Engine 4, Truck 1, Truck 2, Battalion 1, and Medic units, responded alongside police and the Oregon Department of Transportation following reports of a vehicle-versus-tree collision just before 7 a.m.

Crews reported that the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and came to rest on its side off the roadway against a fence. Two occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Fire personnel conducted stabilization efforts and performed heavy extrication to free a trapped occupant. One person was transported to RiverBend Hospital with serious injuries, while the second occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to officials.

Fire crews also deployed a fire line for protection while providing patient care during the extrication process. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by authorities.
