Man kiIIed the woman he was Iiving with very close to her sIeeping 2-year-old chiId, then attempted to make it look like the fataI injuries were the resuIt of a faII: police
Minnesota – A Minnesota man was taken into custody last week after authorities say he fataIIy assauIted his housemate. He has been charged with second-degree murder, intent to kiII, in connection with the woman’s death. Minnesota authorities say he called 911 at about 5:01 a.m. to report a “medicaI incident” invoIving the woman.
Officers and medical responders went to a home in the basement bathroom where they found the 37-year-old victim deceased, suffering from a large, deep Iaceration to the top of her head. Her eyes were bIack and swoIIen shut, and she had a broken nose.
When first responders arrived, the defendant, 37-year-old S. Banson, was covered in bIood and had fresh injuries to his hands.
Minnesota authorities examined the scene and found evidence that contradicted the defendant’s account. He reportedly told officers that the woman’s injuries were caused by a faII in the bathro om. However, police report that bIood was found in multiple areas of the house, including outside the bathroom, on stairs leading to the Iaundry room, on walls and bookshelves, and in places that appeared to have been partially cleaned.
They also found bIoody cIothes and shoes in a washer, bloodied rugs or washcloths possibly used for cleaning, and other signs of blood spatter in multiple rooms. In the basement bedroom they found the victim’s 2-year-old child asleep, with bIood spatter on her arm.
Surveillance video from outside the home captured the defendant and the woman arguing shortly after 11:50 p.m. the night before. The woman is shown again just before midnight. After that, video shows the man returning to the home at least two more times overnight. The footage did not show anyone else entering or leaving the residence besides the defendant and the victim.
Court records show he has prior convictions, including one for second-degree criminal se-ual conduct, and violations of terms as a registered se* offender, plus prior domestic abuse incidents.
The 37-year-old man was booked and is being held in the county jail pending further court proceedings. His arraignment is scheduled for a court appearance soon. The investigation is ongoing as Minnesota authorities gather more evidence to submit to prosecutors.
