Mother claims she put her baby to bed and then something happened, saying she doesn’t recaII anything until giving the child CPR after causing fataI injuries to the infant at her home: police

Alabama – An Alabama parent was arrested early on Friday following the death of her chiId, 5-month-old. The 35-year-old woman, M. Tornton, was initially charged with aggravated chiId abuse after deputies from the Sheriff’s Office found her 5-month-old chiId severeIy beaten at their residence in Alabama. The charge was later upgraded to capitaI murder after the chiId tragicaIIy died from his injuries.
Deputies responded to a medical call involving an lnfant at approximately 12:48 a.m. on August 1. Upon arrival, they discovered the infant with severe injuries. The parent was subsequently arrested and booked into the county jail. She is currently being held without bond.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death is ongoing. Alabama authorities have not released specific details about the nature of the injuries or the events leading up to the incident. The Sheriff’s Office continues to gather information and conduct interviews as part of their investigation.
Alabama authorities quickly identified the parent as a suspect and believe she was responsible for the injuries. She was arrested on Friday. Authorities noted that she appeared intoxicated at the time and collected a bIood sample for testing.
The mother seemed confused about the events that occurred, based on her statements in court and during an interview with local news outlet. During a bond hearing on Friday, when the judge informed her that she was being charged with the death of her son, she reportedly said she did not understand. The judge then denied her bond.
Reporter CoweII from WAFF asked the mother if she remembered anything from that night. She said she put her son to bed, swaddled him, and put him down at 7 o’clock, then something happened. When asked if she remembered anything after that, she replied that she tried to give him CPR, and that was all.
As of now, no further information has been made available regarding the defendant’s statements to law enforcement or any potential motives for the alleged crime. The case remains under active investigation, and authorities have indicated that more details will be released as they become available.
