Eugene, OR – In a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and community spirit, Lane County United kicked off the 2025 season with a special friendly soccer match featuring local first responders.

The game brought together members of Eugene Springfield Fire, Eugene Police Department, and Springfield Police Department for a commemorative event honoring those who responded to the 2015 Civic Stadium fire.

The match marked a symbolic moment, taking place at the newly built stadium that now stands on the same site where the original Civic Stadium once stood. The event served as both a tribute and a celebration of how far the community has come since the devastating fire.

The Eugene Police Department shared pride in their team’s performance, noting the heart, hustle, and sportsmanship displayed on the field. Beyond competition, the match reflected the deep bond between public safety agencies and the community they serve.

The event also highlighted the power of sports in bringing people together, particularly those who share a history of service during one of the city’s most difficult moments.
