Eugene Police arrest man on riot charges following chaotic party near university district

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department has made its first arrest in connection with the unruly party that erupted near E. 14th Avenue and Patterson Street on April 26. Ashby Wendell Ziemer, 18, was taken into custody and booked at the Lane County Jail on charges of Riot and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
The arrest follows an investigation by the department’s Special Investigations Unit, which was supported by video evidence. Police say more arrests are expected as the inquiry into the incident continues.
The party, which began around 11:30 a.m., quickly escalated into what police described as riotous behavior. Witnesses reported that vehicles were being struck by individuals in the crowd and that drivers were blocked from passing through. Callers estimated that “thousands” of people had filled the street, and described scenes of broken glass, trash being thrown, and widespread public intoxication.
The event was marked by open consumption of alcohol and what authorities referred to as a “B.O.R.G.”—a trend popularized on social media involving a gallon container filled with water, electrolyte additives, and alcohol. Some individuals were seen climbing onto rooftops and engaging in public urination.
Police deployed drones early in the incident and issued dispersal orders. The situation intensified when attendees began throwing beer cans and bottles at police vehicles. The Eugene Mobile Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated to help restore order, and officers provided crowd control while addressing specific problem areas.
Although approximately seven individuals were cited or cited in lieu of custody, police say the investigation is far from over. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the confrontation.
