Man arrested after shots fired during altercation in Eugene apartment parking lot

Eugene, OR – On the evening of April 22, 2025, Eugene Police responded to a shots-fired call at an apartment parking lot in the 300 block of W. 11th Avenue. Officers arrived to find that 36-year-old Michael Allen Gutierrez had been involved in a dispute with a female tenant over property. After security personnel asked him to leave, Gutierrez became aggressive, yelling at the security guard.
A 41-year-old man, who was present in the parking lot, intervened in the argument, leading to a physical confrontation with Gutierrez. The security guard became involved in the altercation as well. During the scuffle, a shot was fired, but the individuals involved fled the scene immediately.
In response to the situation, police deployed multiple officers, drones, and K9 units to track down the suspects. Officers later learned that Gutierrez had contacted the tenant and falsely claimed that he had been shot. He was located several blocks away from the scene and was taken into custody without resistance.
Although Gutierrez had not been shot, he did suffer a non-life-threatening injury, likely from the physical altercation, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was later booked into Lane County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Telephonic Harassment. Despite the shot being fired, officers were unable to determine who discharged the firearm during the incident.
