The City of Eugene Public Works Maintenance crews, along with local cyclists, are urging the community to keep bike lanes clear of fall leaves
Eugene, OR – According to the city officials, reports have surfaced of residents and businesses placing their leaves out before the scheduled pickup times, creating hazardous conditions for cyclists.
Multiple incidents have been reported where piles of leaves blocked bike lanes, forcing cyclists into vehicle lanes and creating dangerous situations for both cyclists and drivers.
Residents living near bike lanes are asked to place their leaves in yard debris bins or drop them off at commercial recycling facilities like Rexius or Lane Forest Products.
Leaf season is a program run annually by Eugene Public Works, allowing community members to place leaves in the right-of-way on designated dates.
This helps prevent localized flooding and protects water quality in area rivers and creeks.
