Columbus, OH – According to the court documents, the 43-year-old defendant, later identified as Mla, was sentenced to 9 to 12 years behind bars after pleading guilty to felony assault. Prosecutors claim the defendant shot and seriously injured her family member, 6-month-old Mira, after shooting her in the eye. Fortunately, the baby survived the near-fatal attack and is now facing a long way to recovery.

Prosecutors said the defendant attacked other family members on the day when she shot the baby. According to the court documents, the baby is the defendant’s grandchiId. The investigation process began in December last year after the victim’s mom, defendant’s daughter, called 911 and told the dispatcher that her baby was shot in the head.

First responders found the baby suffering from a single gunshot wound to the eye and rushed her to the hospital for treatment. Luckily, after several emergency surgeries, the child survived the attack and is now facing a long way to recovery. The victim’s mom is sharing updates on the baby’s online fundraiser, which was launched to raise money for medical expenses.

During the investigation process, Authorities discovered that the defendant initially fired at other family members before breaking down a locked bedroom door and intentionally shooting the baby, seriously injuring her. The defendant fled the scene after the shooting, only to be arrested shortly after. During an interview with investigators, the woman reportedly said that she ‘shot the child because that’s not her grandchiId and she believed that she shouldn’t be punished for her actions’.
