Eugene Police Department honored local and fallen officers nationwide during the National Police Week
Eugene, OR – Police officials released a statement, saying that the local police department took a moment to solemnly remember all fallen officers, with special reverence for Officer Chris Kilcullen, Officer Oscar Duley, and Officer Jesse Jennings Jackson.
Their unwavering commitment to service and the ultimate sacrifice they made for our community will never be forgotten.
National Police Week, observed from May 12 through May 18, is a poignant time for our nation to honor law enforcement personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The significance of this week dates back to 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week surrounding it as Police Week.
During this time, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from across the globe gather in Washington, DC, to partake in various events commemorating those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Central to these observances is the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC, serving as a poignant reminder of the courage and dedication exhibited by officers who gave their lives in service to their communities.
Through these events and memorials, we honor the legacy of our fallen heroes and express gratitude for their selfless service.
