Speed limits on Hilyard Street and 40th Avenue will be reduced as part of the ongoing effort to achieve the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan goal of eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on city streets, officials say

Eugene, OR – According to the city officials, this effort is a partnership between the City of Eugene, Oregon Department of Transporation and the Eugene Police Department to enhance safety on key roads.

Starting the week of April 15, the speed limit on Hilyard Street will be reduced to 25 mph from Broadway Street to 40th Avenue.

The speed limit on 40th Avenue also will be set at 25 mph from Hilyard Street to Willamette Street.

City crews will be systematically replacing speed limit signs in that stretch.

Studies consistently show that lower speeds significantly increase the likelihood of survival in the event of a crash.
