Eugene Police Department teams collaborate on safety improvements along Amazon Corridor and Fern Ridge Bike Path

Eugene, OR – The City of Eugene launched a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing safety and cleanliness in the Amazon Corridor and along the Fern Ridge Bike Path, in response to public complaints, calls, and safety concerns.
The initiative saw multiple City teams come together, including the Eugene Police Department’s Park Resource Officers, Housing Support Officers, and Public Works Clean-up teams.
From 8 a.m. to noon, these teams worked diligently, focusing their efforts on the area stretching from Cesar Chavez School to Bertelsen. The teams’ primary goal was to make the corridor safer for residents and those using the public right of way.
During the operation, Public Works Clean-up teams collected an estimated 15 yards of trash and removed about 20 grocery carts that had accumulated in the area.
In addition to the clean-up, law enforcement teams made several contacts and arrests. Park Resource and Housing Support Officers arrested three individuals who had outstanding warrants, including two chronic offenders known to frequent the area.
In addition, two people were cited for Park Rule violations, while six to eight other individuals were contacted but not cited. These individuals were informed about the upcoming increase in patrols and enforcement in the area.
City officials emphasized that the collaborative effort would continue as part of a broader strategy to address ongoing concerns in the Amazon Corridor and ensure the area remains safe, clean, and accessible for all.
