Man arrested after causing disturbance and trying to bypass TSA checkpoint at Eugene Airport
Eugene, OR – Eugene police arrested an Iowa man after he caused a disturbance at Eugene Airport and allegedly attempted to get through the TSA security checkpoint without a boarding pass or identification.
According to police, officers working at the airport were contacted by several employees about 42-year-old Daniel Joseph Bevins, of Iowa, who was causing a disturbance.
A TSA supervisor told officers that Bevins did not have a boarding pass or identification and was denied entry through the security checkpoint. Police said Bevins then attempted to take another person’s boarding pass while it was being printed so he could use it to get through TSA.
Bevins also attempted to have an airline employee push him through the security checkpoint in a wheelchair. The employee refused because Bevins did not have a boarding pass, after which police said he became loud and argumentative.
An airline employee told officers that Bevins had previously possessed a ticket, but the ticket had been canceled before the incident.
When officers contacted Bevins and instructed him to leave the airport, police said he asked to be taken to jail instead.
Officers arrested Bevins, who was lodged in the Lane County Jail on a charge of second-degree criminal trespass.
