Eugene police cite driver and pedestrian after crash on West 11th Avenue leaves man hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department cited both a driver and a pedestrian following a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash early Tuesday morning, October 20, on West 11th Avenue near Garfield Street.
Police said officers responded around 6:50 a.m. after receiving a report of the crash. A witness told officers she saw a red sedan strike a male pedestrian, who was lying in an eastbound lane of the roadway. The driver stopped in a nearby parking lot and got out to help him.
The driver, Elizabeth Saldivar, 32, of Eugene, told police she was driving to work at approximately 35 mph when the pedestrian suddenly entered her path. Police said the pedestrian had been walking in the middle of West 11th Avenue while wearing dark clothing. It was still dark, and street lighting in the area was limited. There are no pedestrian crossings at that location.
The pedestrian, Brian Anthony Harris, 38, who is unhoused, was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Saldivar was cited for driving without an operator’s license and driving without insurance. Harris was cited for disorderly conduct for being in the roadway.
