Large rural home destroyed in overnight fire near Eugene as firefighters battle flames for four hours
Eugene, OR – A large, two-story home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at a rural property in southeast Eugene early Wednesday, October 21, prompting a four-hour response.
Eugene Springfield Fire said crews were dispatched just before 4 a.m. to a reported structure fire in the 85000 block of Christensen Road, within Eugene Rural Fire District No. 1.
Firefighters faced difficult access because of a long, narrow driveway and numerous vehicles surrounding the property, which limited the movement of emergency vehicles and access to the fire.
Initial reports indicated that unauthorized individuals were occupying the property.
Firefighters made contact with the occupants, who confirmed that everyone had safely evacuated. Initial searches found no victims, and no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
Crews remained at the scene for approximately four hours to conduct firefighting and cleanup operations.
Because the area had no fire hydrants, water was supplied by two Eugene Springfield Fire water tenders, two tenders from Pleasant Hill-Goshen Fire District and one from Lane Fire Authority through automatic aid.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Eugene Springfield Fire Marshal’s Office, with assistance from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
