Eugene Police Department releases locations of ALPR cameras in the city
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department announced that it will release the locations of its Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras throughout the city.
The use of the recently installed ALPR cameras was paused on October 14 at the recommendation of the Eugene City Council, pending further discussion and review. Since then, public attention on the deployment and locations of the cameras has continued.
With the cameras no longer active, EPD determined that withholding their locations is no longer necessary to prevent criminal mischief or to avoid aiding suspects in evading detection. The department will publish a map of ALPR camera locations, aligning with practices adopted by other law enforcement agencies.
Since the system’s initial installation, six cameras have been replaced due to damage from intentional criminal mischief.
