Eugene fire crews respond to suspected lightning fire on Spencer Butte
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a suspected lightning-caused fire on the northeast corner of Spencer Butte in South Eugene on Wednesday.
Officials said crews were called just after 11 a.m. and have been on scene for several hours, working with the Oregon Department of Forestry to contain the small, moving fire.
A helicopter has been deployed to assist in suppression efforts.
Fire officials do not expect the blaze to spread significantly due to recent rainfall and cooler weather.
Trail closures are in effect on the Ridgeline Trail while crews continue to manage the incident.
