City of Eugene begins Broadway sidewalks and paving project to enhance safety and accessibility

Eugene, OR – The City of Eugene has officially launched the Broadway Sidewalks and Paving Project, a two-phase initiative aimed at making Broadway safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.
Phase One, currently underway and expected to continue through August, focuses on widening the sidewalks and creating a new planting strip along Mill Street and Broadway.
This involves removing one of the three southbound/eastbound lanes to reallocate space for wider sidewalks on the south side, additional street trees, and new on-street commercial parking. Importantly, drivers will not need to detour during this phase, though pedestrians and cyclists will be temporarily rerouted to the north side of Broadway.
Phase Two, scheduled from August to November, will repave Broadway from Mill to Hilyard Street and complete further sidewalk upgrades. This phase will bring more significant travel impacts, including lane closures and shifts.
The project is funded by a voter-approved pavement bond and the Riverfront Urban Renewal District. Residents and visitors can find detailed updates and weekly construction impact information at eugene-or.gov/2558/Current-Projects and eugene-or.gov/traffic.
The city encourages community members to stay informed and plan accordingly as improvements continue to enhance this vital corridor.
