Eugene, OR – From April 7 to 10, public safety agencies across the region gathered at Matthew Knight Arena for a comprehensive 4-day training exercise, Operation: Merganser Roost, aimed at preparing for mass casualty events.

The joint effort, supported by a federal preparedness grant, involved key agencies including Eugene Springfield Fire, the Eugene Police Department, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, University of Oregon Police, Oakridge Police, and local hospitals.

The exercise was designed to simulate real-world emergency scenarios in a high-capacity venue, helping to enhance regional readiness and improve coordination among various emergency response teams.

Operation: Merganser Roost proved crucial in reinforcing the community’s ability to manage large-scale incidents and ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the event of an emergency.

The collaborative effort was a testament to the leadership and commitment of all participating agencies, who worked together to fine-tune their strategies and response procedures.
