City of Eugene and White Bird Clinic announce changes to mobile crisis response services

on

Eugene, OR – The City of Eugene and White Bird Clinic have announced changes to their mobile crisis response services, with the CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets) program no longer being available within the city as of April 7, 2025.

The decision comes as White Bird Clinic, which has long partnered with the city, no longer has the financial resources to continue providing full-service mobile crisis services.

CAHOOTS has been an essential resource for the Eugene community for years, offering mobile crisis response and serving as a model for similar programs across the nation. However, with White Bird Clinic unable to sustain the program, the city and clinic have stated they are open to future partnership opportunities as community needs and the crisis response system evolve.

For those in need of mobile crisis services, community members can now contact Mobile Crisis Services of Lane County (MCS-LC) by calling or texting 988, calling the Lane County Crisis Line at 541-682-1001, or dialing 911.

It’s important to note that while MCS-LC will provide mobile crisis services, it will not be able to offer certain public safety functions previously handled by CAHOOTS, including welfare checks, transportation, and housing-related crises.
