Oregon – An Oregon man was taken into custody and later charged with multiple charges, including second-degree murder after he reportedly killed the woman whose home he occupied because she was confined to bed and was unable to check upstairs. The 54-year-old man, MichaeI, reportedly trespassed on the woman’s home and used the woman’s second floor as a place for criminal activity before killing the elderly woman and putting her body in a bag.
Authorities in Oregon revealed that the 80-year-old woman’s, Judi, death was determined to be a homicide, but it remains unclear when and how the defendant took her life before placing her body in a bag. The 54-year-old defendant was taken into custody last week, court records say. The investigation process began last week after the victim’s body was found near a river.
The victim’s only reported friends, Justln and his partner LesIie, told local news outlets that they met the elderly woman last year after they reportedly showed interest in buying her home before helping her move to a retirement home.
According to them, the woman had to leave the retirement home for medical reasons and was forced to return to her home, where she was confined to bed and unable to keep it secure from unwanted entry.
Intruders eventually took over the woman’s home and began living on the second floor. The woman was unable to check upstairs. The couple said they haven’t heard from the victim after she moved into the retirement home.
It remains unclear when and how the elderly woman was killed. The investigation remains active, and detectives continue gathering evidence at this time, authorities in Oregon said. The 54-year-old defendant is facing a slew of charges and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 3.
