Eugene, OR – On Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2024, Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to a house fire in the 2000 block of Cross Place, north of Railroad Boulevard in West Eugene.
The fire was reported at 12:29 PM by a passerby who noticed smoke emanating from the crawlspace of the home.
Firefighters from Station 2 in the Whiteaker neighborhood arrived within three and a half minutes, joined by additional units including another engine, a truck, and a battalion chief.
Upon arrival, crews declared the fire a working incident and called for the remainder of the first alarm response, which included two more engines, a second chief, and an ambulance with EMS supervisor.
Firefighters immediately began attacking the fire by flowing water into the crawlspace, while the truck company used saws to access the floor and locate the seat of the fire.
Despite the challenging access, the rapid response and expert efforts of the firefighters were key in saving the home and its contents. No injuries were reported.
