A crash south of Howard Avenue left a 61-year-old pedestrian dead

Eugene, OR – According to the police officials, a vehicle struck the man in the northbound lane while he was crossing River Road near the DariMart at East Maynard Avenue. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at scene.

This unfortunate incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. The police officials have reported that the driver stopped and called 911. There was no indication of driver impairment. Inclement weather and dark conditions, in addition to non-contrasting clothing worn by the victim were major factors in the incident.

The road was shut down for about three and a half hours while EPD’s Major Collision Investigation team investigated. River Road was reopened in all directions by 10:45 p.m. Friday.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Eugene Police Department officials are withholding the identities for next of kin notification.
