Florida – A Florida woman was taken into custody earlier this month for allegedly lmpersonating a U.S. lmmigration and Customs Enforcement agent to abduct her former partner’s spouse from her workplace. The 52-year-old woman was apprehended the following day in Florida, while allegedly attempting to flee to Alabama.

According to Florida authorities, the 52-year-old woman, later identified as L. BattIe, arrived at the victim’s place of employment, a hoteI, wearing a black shirt emblazoned with “lCE,” and presented a sheriff’s office business card along with a handheld radio to bolster her guise as a federal agent . The victim, who is in the process of obtaining legal U.S. residency, complied with woman’s demands out of fear, believing she was being detained by an actual agent.

During the car ride, the victim attempted to contact her husband and lawyer, but the defendant allegedly seized her phone, claiming she had a call from the sheriff’s office . Instead of taking the victim to the sheriff’s office as stated, the defendant drove to an apartment complex, where she told the victim she would now have to suffer the consequences of her spouse’s actions.

Upon arrival at the apartment complex, the defendant entered one of the units, during which time the victim escaped and sought help from a neighbor, who allowed her to use his phone to contact authorities . The victim’s husband, upon hearing the description of the assailant, identified her as his former partner, against whom he had previously obtained a restraining order.

She faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping in the commission of a feIony, robbery by sudden snatching, impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony, and felony violation of probation . She has been ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Authorities in Florida have not disclosed specific statements made by the defendant during the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, emphasizing the seriousness of impersonating law enforcement officers and the potential dangers such actions pose to the community.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the prompt reporting of suspicious activities. The swift actions of the victim, local residents, and law enforcement were instrumental in preventing further harm and bringing the suspect to justice.
