43-year-old man taken into custody after trespassing in backyards, firearm located
Eugene, OR – A 43-year-old man was arrested after Eugene Police responded to reports of a suspicious person checking door handles and entering backyards in a residential neighborhood.
According to the Eugene Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:26 a.m. on March 12, 2026, after several calls were received about a man in the Cape Hatteras Drive area.
One of the callers was a woman who was home alone with two small children and reported the man moving through the neighborhood and checking doors.
Multiple officers responded to search the area. An EPD sergeant used a department drone and located the suspect south of Chad Drive on Game Farm Road.
Officers stopped and detained the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Neil Rory Sharp. During a search, police found a loaded firearm inside a backpack he was carrying.
Sharp was arrested and transported to the Lane County Jail.
He faces charges including Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.
