Police search for man who tried to rob Medford Dairy Queen

Medford police are searching for a man behind an unusual robbery attempt at a Dairy Queen last week, in which the robber pulled his shirt up over his face while demanding money and claiming he had a gun.

The incident occurred at 9:21 p.m. Sept. 17, at the Dairy Queen on West Main Street in Medford, said Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. Three employees were in the restaurant at the time. The man reportedly walked in with his shirt pulled up over his face, his arms retracted through the shirt sleeves.

“Basically walked around, tried to get attention of some of the employees,” Budreau said. “He did yell a demand for money.”

Surveillance footage from the incident, shared by Medford police on Facebook, showed the man briefly walking behind the counter while seeming to simulate having a gun under his shirt. One of the employees yelled for help, Budreau added, and the man fled without any money. He was last seen running east.

“He entered with his face concealed. He obviously had put some thought into this,” Budreau said.

The man was described as white, 5-feet-8, and bald on top with hair on the sides of his head. He wore a plain, light gray T-shirt “with what looked like small holes on the front,” police said. The man wore green and gray camouflage-patterned shorts, gray shoes with red accents, and a bright red bandanna.
