Nevada – A Nevada woman was arraigned on a first‑degree murder charge last week in connection with her chiId’s death earlier this year, Nevada authorities said. The new murder charge was added after prosecutors upgraded the initial charge of child abuse resulting in substantial bodily harm or death, reflecting additional evidence uncovered during months of investigation. The woman’s spouse, NichoIas, has already been charged with murder and both parents face separate criminal proceedings in the case.

According to the Nevada authorities, the investigation process began in ApriI last year when deputies responded to the family’s home after a report of an unresponsive child. First responders pronounced the 5-year-old chiId, Isabella dead at the scene. The County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the child’s death was a homicide, citing bacteriaI pneumonia as the cause of death, with multiple blunt‑force injuries, maInutrition, dehydration, and medical neglect listed as significant contributing conditions.

Investigators and prosecutors spent months reviewing the physical evidence, medical findings, text messages, search histories, and interviews with family members as part of a thorough investigation. The District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office said they worked closely together to ensure every aspect of the case was examined before upgrading charges against the mother, Andrrea. The decision to pursue a murder charge came after evidence suggested a more direct role in the abuse and neglect that led to the child’s death.

During the initial response in April, deputies found many signs of trauma on Isabella’s body, including oraI trauma, extensive bruising on her face, peIvis, hips, arms, legs, torso, and genitaI area, as well as scalp injuries. There were at least 10 separate visible injuries on her face alone. Her parents’ explanations for these injuries changed over time, with some suggesting she had been hit with toys or suffered multiple falls. Investigators also learned that the child had been coughing up bIood and mucus for about 10 days before she was found unresponsive, according to interviews and the arrest report. On the night before her death, her dad reportedly took her temperature, gave her a bath, and placed her to sleep in a small makeshift cubby within the home. Deputies noted that while the child slept in this confined space, her siblings had beds in the same room, indicating a notable disparity in living conditions.

In interviews with detectives, the mother initially described her spouse’s actions as the cause of some of the child’s injuries. She told law enforcement that she had witnessed him kick their chiId in the genitaIs and drag her by her sweatshirt hood up the stairs on occasions prior to her death. She reported witnessing the injuries accumulate over time. Still, she denied physically abusing the child herself, saying she did not strike her daughter, but admitted she “could have” called for help or sought medical attention and did not.

The woman also told investigators that after discovering the child was unresponsive around 2:00 a.m., she and the child’s dad discussed what to do next. According to court documents, the man allegedly discouraged her from calling 911 and suggested other actions, including burying the child in the backyard or fleeing the state. The mother said she refused to carry out those plans. Instead, deputies allege the couple waited for several hours before finally calling emergency dispatch at about 6:55 a.m., nearly five hours after finding their daughter not breathing.

Prosecutors also cited other evidence obtained during the investigation. Court filings allege that both parents made attempts to influence statements from other children in the home, and that the couple failed to enroll the child in school as a way to hide signs of abuse. The amended complaint further asserts that the mother expressed sentiments that the victim deserved the abuse and encouraged her dad to be the one to administer it.

During the investigation, prosecutors identified internet search history on the mother’s devices that reportedly included queries such as “signs my chiId is dying,” “how long can you go without food,” and others related to serious medical symptoms and conditions, suggesting she researched her daughter’s deteriorating health instead of immediately seeking professional medical help.
