LPR helps Eugene police arrest felon in possession of firearm, reckless driving suspect
Eugene, OR – Eugene Police used license plate reader technology to arrest a man accused of menacing another person with a firearm and ramming the victim’s vehicle.
At 11:38 a.m. on August 14, an officer followed up on reports about an incident that occurred the previous day at 3800 Barger Drive. According to reports, a 49-year-old man and 43-year-old Shawn Harold Raymond were arguing when Raymond allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim.
He then pursued the victim’s vehicle, striking it multiple times while driving from Beltline Highway to the 4700 block of Royal Avenue. The dispute continued at that location, during which Raymond reportedly displayed a firearm again.
The following day, officers used Eugene Police Department’s license plate reader to locate the suspect’s vehicle. Officers found Raymond near the vehicle and obtained a search warrant, which was granted by a judge. A search of the vehicle uncovered several weapons, including a handgun and brass knuckles.
Raymond, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was transported to Lane County Jail. He faces charges including menacing, felon possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, and reckless driving.
