First responders appreciation BBQ brings community and local agencies together in Springfield

Eugene, OR — First responders and their families gathered Thursday at 3188 Gateway Loop in Springfield for the First Responders Appreciation BBQ, an event dedicated to honoring those who serve and protect the community.
The event, which runs until 7 p.m., welcomed both active and retired first responders along with their families. Organized with the participation of Eugene Police and other local agencies, the BBQ featured opportunities for the public to meet officers, explore specialty law enforcement equipment, and connect with members of multiple emergency services.
Eugene Police officers were present alongside personnel from neighboring departments, helping to create a relaxed and friendly environment for attendees. The gathering emphasized appreciation, camaraderie, and strengthening relationships between first responders and the communities they serve.
The event included food, displays of emergency vehicles, and informal conversations with officers and first responder teams. It served not only as a thank-you to those in the field but also as a public relations effort to encourage positive engagement between agencies and the families they protect.
The First Responders Appreciation BBQ is part of an ongoing effort to build community support and foster stronger ties across public safety sectors throughout the region. Organizers encouraged all first responders and their loved ones to stop by and take part in the celebration.
