Fireworks amnesty days collect record amount of illegal fireworks in Eugene and Springfield, police say

Eugene, OR – According to the police officials, during the recent Fireworks Amnesty Days in Eugene and Springfield, the public turned in over 260 pounds of illegal fireworks.
The event, hosted by the Metro Explosives Disposal Unit, saw a notable increase in the amount collected compared to previous years.
The Metro Explosives Disposal Unit reported that approximately 264 pounds of fireworks were collected from the public on July 4 and July 5. This marks an increase from previous years, highlighting the community’s growing participation in ensuring safety.
For comparison, the amount of fireworks collected during Amnesty Days in past years was as follows:
– **2024:** Approximately 264 pounds
– **2023:** Approximately 240 pounds
– **2022:** Approximately 245 pounds
– **2021:** Approximately 187 pounds
– **2020:** Approximately 235 pounds
