Eugene, OR – According to the officials, these assessments are crucial in educating homeowners on effective measures to increase the chances of their homes surviving a wildfire.

During the assessments, homeowners received personalized advice on how to create a defensible space around their properties. One straightforward yet significant recommendation given to most homeowners was to remove combustible vegetation growing against their homes. This simple action can dramatically reduce the risk of fire spreading to their houses.

“These assessments are a vital tool in our ongoing efforts to protect communities from the devastating impacts of wildfires,” said a representative from Eugene Springfield Fire. “By taking practical steps, homeowners can significantly improve their homes’ defenses against fire.”

The initiative underscores the importance of community engagement and proactive measures in wildfire prevention. The partnership between Eugene Springfield Fire and the Oregon State Fire Marshal highlights a concerted effort to equip residents with the knowledge and tools needed to safeguard their properties.

As wildfire season approaches, the Defensible Space Assessments serve as a timely reminder of the steps homeowners can take to protect their homes. The collaborative efforts of local fire services and state officials are aimed at fostering a safer, more resilient community.

Homeowners who participated in the assessments expressed appreciation for the guidance provided and the increased peace of mind that comes with knowing they are better prepared for wildfire threats.
