Eugene Police seek public’s help identifying suspect in repeated vandalism at City Hall
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a series of vandalism incidents at Eugene City Hall, which have caused thousands of dollars in damage over the past week.
According to officials, the first incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. on April 27 and 12:30 a.m. on April 28, when an unknown individual threw rocks through the front doors of City Hall, damaging the glass and door frame. The estimated cost of repairs from that incident is approximately $4,000.
A second act of vandalism took place between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on April 30, when another rock or chunk of concrete was thrown through one of the glass doors, causing an additional $2,000 in damage.
In response, Eugene Police deployed a Guardian camera trailer to the City Hall grounds to deter further activity and capture any video evidence. Despite this measure, a third incident occurred on May 4 between 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Video footage shows a suspect approaching the trailer, appearing to give a short speech while holding a rock, which he then used to break more windows. The latest round of damage is again estimated at $4,000.
Authorities have released a photo of the suspect and are urging anyone who may recognize the individual or have information about the incidents to contact Detective Shawn Trotter at [email protected].
The motive behind the vandalism remains unclear, and police are continuing their investigation.
