Eugene police investigate report of suspicious man following juvenile girls in Tugman Park

Eugene, OR – On October 14, Eugene Police Department officers responded to the 3600 block of Hilyard Street at Tugman Park after reports that a suspicious man had been following two juvenile girls.
The girls were able to safely leave the area. Officers did not locate the suspect, who was described as a white male in his 30s with his hair in a bun, wearing a baggy grey shirt and blue jeans.
The department’s Community Engagement Team provided child safety tips, emphasizing the importance of teaching children to recognize safe adults, use code words, call 9-1-1 in emergencies, and never go with strangers.
Children are also encouraged to yell loudly, say “I don’t know you,” and run to safe locations such as police stations, libraries, stores, or a friend’s house if they feel threatened.
Police continue to investigate the incident and urge anyone with information about the suspect to contact the department.
